Thanks for doing this project, it’s inspiring me to write a manifesto. Reading your words about how they raise the stakes of your life, I’m reminded of Adam Mastrioianni’s recent post about Seriousness.

https://www.experimental-history.com/p/surely-you-can-be-serious

Writing a manifesto can make you serious about the thing you’re pursuing. My hunch is that this doesn’t happen automatically - I think you can write a manifesto that’s all flash and drama. It’s easy to tell stories.

But I’d like to write my manifestoes as a declaration of *intent* as well as vision, to *create* the seriousness I seek.

I love this. Do you have any theories about the mechanics behind how this works? Like, do you think psychic energy travels into the world? Or it's more mechanical than that?

that's a good question, which i do not have a good answer for! i think part of it can be explained mechanistically, but it's absolutely metaphysical as well. and that's the aspect i don't know how to articulate, or whether i should even try articulating it. there's something much bigger happening here, and perhaps it's more fun to let it remain a mystery! or maybe that's just me being lazy lol
